About me

Kia ora, my name is Kate Broadley. I have lived in Lower Hutt for 12 years with my husband and two boys (aged 9 and 5). In my spare time I enjoy walking, running and going for mountain bike rides with my family.

I have a Genetics and Biochemistry background with 8 years work experience as a laboratory technician. As a lab technician I not only enjoyed learning about the area of research I also enjoyed sharing and having open discussions about the findings. I enjoyed showing students techniques as they came through the lab for their PhD and master’s degree. Working alongside them with their projects, it was great watching them find answers to their questions and spark the interest of what happens next.

Since having my tamariki I have enjoyed working with them and other tamariki to find learning methods that work for them. I have a great sense of pride giving them the tools to learn a concept then watching them work towards having that “a-ha” moment. As a biology or chemistry teacher I want to draw on my experiences and encourage the ākonga to do the same in a safe respectful environment. I want to encourage open discussions and testing ideas/theories about the topic we are learning about. I am really passionate about science and I want to share this passion with ākonga to spark an interest in them.

I am looking forward to this ongoing learning journey for both myself and the ākonga.
